Jiaqi Liu | PhD, Academician

Biography: Professor Liu is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a renowned volcanologist and Quaternary geologist. He received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Changchun Geological College and his doctorate from the Graduate School of the University of Science and Technology of China. He dedicated over six decades to research at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with his academic footprint spanning seven continents and five oceans. He pioneered the elucidation of the spatiotemporal distribution patterns and petrogeochemical characteristics of volcanoes in China, elevating the study of the mechanisms of Cenozoic volcanic activity in China to the forefront of international research. He held numerous important academic positions both domestically and internationally, including Vice Chairman of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Asian Lake Drilling Program, Vice Chairman of the Stratigraphic Committee of the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA), Chairman of the Quaternary Research Committee of China, and Vice President of the Volcanological Society of China. He also served as a researcher, head of a research department, and director of a geological institute and was a visiting professor at the Open University in the UK and Tohoku University in Japan. He has published numerous high-level academic papers and authoritative monographs, including Volcanoes of China and Quaternary Geology and Environment of China. He has received numerous awards, including the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, multiple first prizes in natural sciences and scientific and technological progress from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a special prize from the State Oceanic Administration.

Biography: Feng Wang is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at the School of Physics, Beijing Institute of Technology, China. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from Northwestern University and Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, followed by postdoctoral research experiences at Tsinghua University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Le Mans University. He has led several projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, with research outcomes published in internationally recognized journals and featured as cover articles, highlighted papers, and research highlights. In addition to his research achievements, Dr. Wang is dedicated to physics education and academic innovation. He has received multiple teaching awards and contributed extensively to educational reform. He also actively promotes industry–academia collaboration and was honored with the Science and Technology Innovation Award from the China Association for the Promotion of Industry–University–Research Cooperation.
